Phil Daro makes a compelling statement about “Answer-getting”. It is so true, his generalizations about math teaching in the United States, and to think I was a major offender of this. However, teaching mathematics for understanding should be at the top of our priority list.  The Common Core’s focus and clarity gives us the time to dig deeper into understanding what were doing as opposed to going through the rules.   “In a field where fads have ruled, we are seeing something new: a growing commitment to the idea that clear and shared goals for student learning must give a foundation on which to improve education and achievement” (1999) the Common Core is not the end all, however, it is a start and a good one at that.

  3. Next, you’ll aim to inspire donors by describing what you need, why you need it, and how your project will change your students’ lives for the better.

Donors Choose

  1. Every day projects are funded on our site, and yours could be next!

  2. Word to the wise: projects under $400 have the best chance of being funded.

  3. Check back often – a donor may leave a personal message for you and your classroom letting you know why he or she chose to give to your project.

Send thanks

  1. If (dare we say when?) your project is funded, we ship the materials straight to your school.

  2. In return, you and your students will write thank-you letters and take photographs of the project in action. We’ll share your thanks with your donors, who love to see the impact of their gifts!

This app has incredible opportunity for teachers and students!

This is one of my visions for the future of our classrooms.  In this video, I was in my office recording…I was trying to keep my voice quiet so the people around me didn’t think I was talking to myself (a few word fumbles, but you get the idea).  Ultimately, I would love to start a library of student ShowMe’s in my district.  This collection would highlight students solving interesting problems in interesting ways.
